Family Beginnings
We hope you will have a wonderful birth experience at our facility. We offer a family-centered birth experience with the best in maternity care available
to you. We have five birthing rooms that are attractively decorated and
provide enough room for your family to be present during labor and birth.
We encourage and support an individual approach to each birth and labor experience. You can discuss your birth wishes with an experienced Family Beginnings nurse at your pre-admission interview. During this interview you can detail your specific birth plan and discuss pain management.
You can have an experience as natural as you prefer or the latest in anesthesia options, including epidurals. Our labor and delivery nurses are trained in labor support and offer excellent help during labor. Your comfort and positive birth experience are the goals for every delivery at Family Beginnings.
In our mother-baby unit you will receive one-to-one education and support in new baby care and breastfeeding or bottle feeding depending on the mother’s choice. We have several specialized lactation nurses available and certified lactation consultants.

- Pre-admission interview with a Family Beginnings staff nurse
- 5 birthing rooms and a cesarean birth suite
- 9 spacious postpartum rooms
- All rooms have a private bath, adjustable lighting and TV
- Portable bed-chairs or futons are available for partners
- Family waiting area
- High-risk maternity care
- Level II special care nursery
- Certified lactation consultants
Prenatal education has always been a priority at SJRMC.
St. Joseph Regional Medical Center is the only Lamaze® Approved Provider in the Inland Northwest.
Lamaze International has been a household name in childbirth education. It is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote, support and protect normal birth through education and advocacy. Since 1960, Lamaze International has provided the most comprehensive and respected education. Lamaze International has also established the Lamaze Approved Provider Program, whereby hospitals, birth centers, group practices and other institutional providers are recognized for meeting Lamaze® standards and offering excellence in childbirth education.
This class series...
- Course curriculum supports the Lamaze® Philosophy of Birth and may also include the Six Care Practices that Support Normal Birth.
- Class series (for first-time parents) includes at least 12 hours of instruction that may be offered in a variety of formats and time frames, with emphasis on skills practice, comfort measures and class discussion (detailed course content is outlined below).
- Educators use a variety of teaching strategies during each class to accommodate different learning styles.
- Products, materials and coupons from formula companies are not used or distributed in Lamaze classes.
