Sam Musser - 2011 Nurse Excellence Recipient!
Sam Musser, RN
Sam Musser, who splits her time working on the Medical Oncology floor and with Patient Education, has been selected the recipient of the 2011 Nurse Excellence Award at SJRMC.
Musser, who has worked at the hospital for 12 years, was honored during an Open House celebration at the hospital on Nov. 21.
Musser grew up in Kamiah and graduated from Kamiah High School in 1999. She then moved to Lewiston and began working at SJRMC in Dietary Services.
“I wore a blue hair net the first two years I worked here so nobody knew what I looked like,” Musser said, laughing.
She started her college studies at Lewis-Clark State and was accepted into the Nursing Program at both LCSC and Walla Walla Community College in Clarkston. She earned her Associate’s degree at WWCC and then finished her Bachelor’s degree at LCSC. She also earned a CSCN certificate.
After working in Dietary Services for two years, she spent 3½ years in Central Processing. She then took a job on the Medical Oncology Floor and then about 18 months ago, went to half-time on the third floor and half-time in Patient Education.
“I really like everyone that I work with,” Musser said. “It’s like an extended family here. That’s probably my favorite thing about working here.” In Patient Education, she is involved with diabetes, wound care, and lower extremity care with both in-and out-patients. She also teaches CPR classes four times a year.
“I love my job because it’s something different every day,” Musser said. “Half the time I really don’t know what to expect so it keeps me on my toes.”
Musser and her husband Art have three children – Kadence age 6, Taylor age 4, and Will, who just turned 1 on Tuesday.
Musser says she and her husband are going to Africa this spring for a hunting trip. She said the trip could be the first time she’s shot an animal.
