Radiation Oncology Services
Radiation Therapy is often an intregal part of a comprehensive cancer treatment plan. St. Joseph Radiation Oncology Center collaborates with Medical Oncology Services when a team approach is needed.
Services Include:
- Two linear accelerators provide radiation treatment.
- CT (Computerized Tomography) Scanner, simulator, and three dimensional treatment planning.
- External beam irradiation, including electron boost for breast cancer lesions and superficial radiation therapy for skin cancer.
- Radioactive seed implants for prostate cancer.
- IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) - delivers higher radiation doses directly to cancer cells while sparing more of the surrounding healthy tissues.
- Portal Imaging provides instant digital images for treatment verifications.
- PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography) is used in combination with CT to identify disease states in the body.
