Family Hospice

Family Hospice is not a place, but a concept of care. Hospice provides this care when life expectancy is determined to be less than 6 months. The focus is on comfort, not curing, as the illness follows its natural course.

The SJRMC Family Hospice Staff, using a team approach, provided care to 49 persons and their families in Lewiston and the surrounding communities within Idaho during the past year.

Our Physicians and Nurses, in consultation with a Pharmacist as needed, work together to provide management of symptoms with a focus on pain control. A registered nurse is available to patients and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Social Workers support individuals and their families by providing emotional support and connecting them to community resources.

Trained Hospice Volunteers are available to help with errands and provide relief to family members who may need an occasional rest.

Spiritual intervention is available through the Family Hospice Chaplain, in addition to, or in the absence of, a local pastor.

Certified Nurse Aides provide assistance with personal care or other activities of daily living.

Family grief and bereavement counseling are an important part of the Hospice program and continue after the patient’s death.

If you know of someone who might benefit from Hospice care, would like more information about Hospice services, or are interested in volunteering, please contact Family Hospice at (208)799-5275.
