Congratulations, Leo Fitz!!
Leo Fitz, a 19-year employee of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, has been selected as the 2009 Employee of the Year in recognition of his many contributions as he lives out our mission, philosophy and values both personally and professionally.
Leo has a friendly manner toward patients, guests, visitors, volunteers and employees. He goes out of his way to make sure that everyone is taken care of and is always looking for ways to make our facility better and ensure that we have the equipment and supplies needed. Having assumed the directorship of food services as well as continuing with the material management department, Leo has expanded his sphere of influence.
In challenging times, Leo is the first to assess the situation and be prepared to personally become a part of the solution to any problem. When the kitchen was closed because of a utilities problem, he was right there making contacts to insure that meals would be provided and then participated in the cleaning and sterilizing of the food preparation areas. He’s not afraid of work and joins with his staff in doing whatever is needed. He never waits to be asked. Examples of his generosity are too numerous to even mention.
Ongoing changes in group purchasing contracts would be enough for most of us to handle, but Leo goes the extra mile in consulting with those involved and making sure that we are able to work through any glitches that may arise when new products are introduced. He is always present to respond to any question or concern and helps in any way he can. No challenge is too small or too large to get Leo’s attention and support.
He enjoys participating on the medical center’s activities committee and assists with community outreach efforts as well. It’s hard to go to an event for our staff when he is not present in assisting – often behind the scenes.
Not only do the associates in our food services and material management departments benefit from having such a great Director, but the entire Medical Center benefits from the way that Leo lives out our values of service, reverence, integrity, wisdom, creativity and dedication. He is quick to acknowledge the contributions of others and we are proud to honor Leo as the 2009 Employee of the Year as he continues to be a great example of the team of People Committed to Life who minister at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
