2009 Nurse Excellence Award Recipient
Melvina Ross, RN
Melvina Ross has been member of the St. Joseph Medical Center team for 21 years. The past three she has served as a Resource nurse and member of the Float Pool. The Resource nurse goes to the various departments to support clinical staff in small ways but it has a big impact on patient care; be it doing an intake or starting an IV. The Resource also works with the Radiology Department providing nursing care during some procedures they preform. Prior to transitioning to her current role, Melvina worked on the Medical Oncology department as a charge nurse and was an expert oncology nurse.
As a member of the Float Pool, Melvina is a strong believer in contributing to the health care team and to the work the team needs to accomplish. Staff will testify as to how well Mel is able to calm and support individuals, both patients and staff through her caring, calm, kind and supportive attitude. Her respect for her patients is evident in her advocacy for their issues and concerns and in her dedication to support and educate not only her patients, but also their families.
Melvina’s approachability, friendliness and clinical experience define her daily nursing practice. Her wealth of experience is demonstrated in the use of critical thinking and nursing process.
Melvina Ross personally exemplifies the best in the nursing profession and as a consequence, the Values of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center: Service to the Poor, Reverence, Integrity, Wisdom, Creativity and Dedication.
