St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Invests in Advanced Technology Designed for Digital Precision and Accuracy in Total Knee Replacement
The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, the latest advancement that helps surgeons perform knee replacement surgery, is now available at St. Joe’s
LEWISTON, IDAHO – St. Joseph Regional Medical Center announced today that it has invested $550,000 in new technology designed for digital precision and accuracy in total knee replacement. The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution is helping surgeons perform knee replacement surgery tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy.
“With the goal of improving outcomes for our patients, this new investment ensures St. Joe’s is supporting our community by employing the latest available technology,” said St. Joe’s CEO, Ed Freysinger. “Surgeons and patients have numerous approaches and technology to choose from; this is the latest advancement in total knee replacement and something we’re excited to bring to our region and pleased to offer here at St. Joe’s.”
Dr. Adam Jelinek, an orthopedic surgeon with Catalyst Medical Group, is now performing total knee replacements with the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution and will conduct the first local surgeries at St. Joe’s on Tuesday, Feb. 22. Dr. Jelinek, has been performing total knee replacements for 13 years and is looking forward to providing this option to area patients.
“This the latest knee replacement technology available today,” said Dr. Jelinek. “It provides information during surgery, in real time, that is specific to each patient and his or her unique anatomy, and specifically designed to work in tandem with the knee implant system we are already using.”
Every knee is different, as is every patient requiring a knee replacement procedure. This technology uses data that’s tailored to each patient’s anatomy to help ensure more predictable results to improve outcomes, increase mobility and help patients recover faster.
Important Safety Information
The performance of knee replacements depends on age, weight, activity level, and other factors. There are potential risks and recovery takes time. People with conditions limiting rehabilitation should not have knee replacement surgery. Only an orthopedic surgeon can determine if knee or hip replacement is required based on an individual patient's condition.

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center has earned three separate Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for Disease-Specific Care Certifications for knee replacement, hip replacement and spinal fusion. The Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to provide safe and effective patient care.
