Jerry Myers

2017 LOVE Award Winner

St. Joseph is proud to announce that the Idaho Hospital Association (IHA) in Boise has selected St. Joseph volunteer, Jerry Myers as the recipient of the prestigious 2017 Leader of Volunteer Excellence (LOVE) state award.

Jerry has been a member of the SJRMC Auxiliary since 2002.  His contributions to the Auxiliary and to our hospital are immense, thus in 2015 Jerry was selected as our Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his tremendous contributions here and in the community.  Volunteering is simply a way of life for Jerry!
For the past 15 years, Jerry has been a dedicated volunteer at St. Joseph and his reach as been broad.  In addition to weekly shifts in the Elizabeth Gift Shop, he serves as a committee member on almost every special project/event that the Auxiliary facilitates such as WineFest, Salad Bar Luncheon, Mini Tree & Wreath Auction, the Finance and Nominating Committees, and whenever someone says “We need your help!.”   Jerry’s leadership skills compliment his volunteering and he brings significant leadership ability and vision to whatever he undertakes.   He currently serves as Auxiliary board president and served as the newsletter editor for many years.  Jerry also volunteers with St. Joseph serving on the Hospice Advisory Board and as the chairman of the Patient and Family Advisory Council.

Jerry’s volunteer activities are equally as impressive outside the Medical Center.  From 2011-2015, Jerry served on the IHA Committee on Volunteers at the state level.  Over this five year span, his outstanding leadership and vision fostered new ideas and growth for this group.  Jerry worked tirelessly to engage both volunteers and volunteer leaders by planning programs and conferences that would be valuable and fun for all.

Currently, Jerry is a Citizen Volunteer Evidence Technician with the Lewiston Police Department, serves on the North West Early Stock Board of Directors and is an American Cancer Society “Road to Recovery” driver.  He is an active member and volunteer of All Saints Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and member of the Liturgy, Finance, and Maintenance Committees. For more than 30 years, he volunteers each spring with the NAIA College World Series working in the concessions and hospitality suite and doing clean-up at Lewis-Clark State College, a major community event.

Jerry’s commitment to volunteerism has not gone unnoticed in our community.  In 2012, Jerry received the National Presidential Volunteer Award.  He received the Lewiston Police Department Community Service Award in 2013 and Certificate of Merit Award in 2005. He is a five and ten year award recipient from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Noteworthy as well, Jerry and wife Rita were recipients of the 2007 Outstanding Citizens award under the City of Lewiston’s Community Recognition Program.  The selection committee for that award was the Intergovernmental Council comprised of our Mayor, the Nez Perce County Commission Chair, presidents of the Port of Lewiston Board and the Lewiston School Board.

As you can see, his volunteer “resume” leaves little time for sleep, especially when you factor in that when he is not volunteering he enjoys traveling to visit his children and spoiling his grandchildren. He also enjoys building and racing stock cars, restoring and rebuilding classic muscle cars, attending NASCAR and Indy car races, and singing in the church choir. We would be remiss not to mention that Jerry is very often at his wife Rita’s side supporting her in all her volunteer activities, and she has an impressive volunteer resume herself!

Jerry is truly an inspiration to all.  We are honored and fortunate that he we are one of the many organizations that he has chosen to support.  Jerry will be formally honored at the 84th Annual Idaho Hospital Association Convention held in Sun Valley Idaho.
