(Lewiston, ID – August 7, 2017) – Officials at RCCH HealthCare Partners announced today that Blain Claypool has been named Chief Executive Officer at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Mr. Claypool has most recently served as the President of Acute Care for the three-hospital (945 total beds) St. Vincent’s Healthcare system in Jacksonville, Florida. St. Vincent’s Healthcare is part of Ascension Health. His first day at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center will be September 25, 2017.

Dr. Tony Fernandez, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Board Chair said, “We are very pleased to welcome Blain and his wife Shannon to the LC Valley and to St. Joe’s. Blain has an outstanding record of leading growing healthcare organizations with great success in key areas like patient safety and the delivery of high-quality care. In fact, hospitals he has led have been ranked by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) in the top 1% of hospitals in the nation for quality. The board and I are very confident that Blain is the right person to lead our hospital into its very bright future.”

Mr. Claypool has more than 20 years of both hospital operational and regional leadership positions for national healthcare organizations in Florida, Washington, and Nevada. Prior to serving as the President of Acute Care for St. Vincent’s Healthcare, Mr. Claypool served as the chief executive officer of three hospitals for Renown Health in Reno, NV. While he was there Renown South Meadows Acute Care facility was named as a Joint Commission Top Performer. Earlier during his career, Mr. Claypool served as the University of Nevada School of Medicine's chief operating officer. During his time at St. Vincent's Healthcare in Jacksonville, Mr. Claypool oversaw the construction of a $110 million brand-new hospital project and the development and construction of an expansion tower for the campus in its first year of operation.

According to Mr. Claypool, “I’m very excited about the opportunity here at St. Joe’s. My wife and I have very strong ties to the West so Lewiston and the LC Valley very much feel like home to us. During my visit, it was clear to me that we have a high quality, extremely talented medical staff and mission-driven, compassionate associates at the hospital and I am honored to serve with the team. Our focus and commitment will be on providing the highest quality, accessible, compassionate and safe care while expanding our regional presence so that all the communities we serve are proud to call our hospital their own. With the support of RCCH, we will continue to invest in both the facility and in recruiting needed physicians to the area.”

Mr. Claypool added, “I truly believe this can and will be a true regional hospital with the breadth and depth of services that brings people to the LC Valley for their care. We need to work collaboratively with all the area physicians and hospitals to make sure that as many people as possible can receive care close to home. Our hospital needs to be a good community and corporate citizen; caring for all in our area. I see our hospital as a true economic engine for attracting strong and diversified economic development to our community.” Mr. Claypool served as the Chair of the Clay County (near Jacksonville, Florida area) Chamber of Commerce in 2016-2017.

Mr. Claypool has a tremendous record of success working with physicians and hospital employees to improve care and expand the range and depth of services provided at all the local hospitals where he has led. Mr. Claypool received his Masters of Science in Health Administration from the University of Oklahoma and his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University. While in graduate school at OU, Mr. Claypool was named the Department of Health Administration “Graduate Student of the Year.”

Blain Claypool and his wife Shannon have four children (three daughters and one son). Shannon is an environmental engineer specializing in water issues, holding a Master’s Degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
