St. Joseph Regional Medical Center provides a 24 hour Emergency Department staffed by our team of highly skilled, board certified emergency medicine physicians and emergency nurses certified in trauma, emergency pediatrics and advanced cardiac life support.

Level III Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center's emergency department has achieved Level III Trauma Center status through the State of Washington. This means we maintain the staffing and resources necessary for treating most major injuries. We receive patients from smaller Idaho and eastern Washington hospitals that aren't as well-suited to handle severe traumas, and we provide outreach for rural emergency medical service groups.

Our targeted, quality program is dedicated to saving lives, and minimizing disability and the damaging effects related to stroke.

Cardiac and Stroke Emergency Care

When precious minutes matter most, St. Joseph’s ER provides rapid, cutting edge cardiac and stroke care. As a Level I Cardiac Facility, through the State of Washington, our team of specialty-trained staff provides primary angioplasty and stenting interventions. “Door-to-balloon” time is the interval between a heart attack patient’s arrival at the ER and the inflation of a balloon-tipped catheter to open a blocked artery. The national standard is 90 minutes or less. On average, our team at St. Joseph’s typically accomplishes this procedure within 60 minutes.

St. Joseph’s Primary Stroke Center provides:

  • Rapid assessment of patients with stroke symptoms
  • Aggressive treatment using the very latest therapies and procedures to remove or dissolve blood clots and blockages inside the neck and head
  • Comprehensive care throughout hospitalization, including the services of an Adult Critical Care Unit
  • Nurses with neurological expertise or special training in stroke care
  • Comprehensive care from board certified neurologists
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Community education programs and support group
